A breast cancer diagnosis may feel like an ending, but may prove to be a beginning of a profound healing journey.
Breast Cancer Support Groups
Support groups were established to bring an amazing group of women together to share their feelings and experiences of breast cancer. They laugh, they cry, and, most importantly, they share their journeys without judgment in a loving, nurturing, and caring environment. The HCF support groups include Bucks County Breast Friends (BCBF), Sedona Breast Friends (SBF), Pennsylvania New Member (BCBF) Meeting and the MetaFriends Virtual Support Group.
Newly diagnosed women are introduced initially in a smaller group and are later connected with breast cancer survivors and Thrivers, some who are 10 and 15 years thriving. The goal is to bond these women connected by a breast cancer diagnosis so that no woman walks this journey alone… she will always have her “BREAST FRIENDS.”
Bucks County Breast Friends (BCBF)
Bucks County Breast Friends is a support group that offers strength, encouragement, and compassion to those faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Initiated in 2007 by breast surgeon, Dr. Beth DuPree, BCBF began with only a few individuals. Today there are over 500 women who call themselves Breast Friends.
This dynamic sisterhood of support is currently co-facilitated by Trish Blake, Michelle Brown, Jill Indelicato, and Kathy Gabriel. Monthly meetings, the BCBF Facebook group, and many shared Breast Friends events allow members to connect, bond, and heal. Breast Friends are women of vitality, positive energy, and inspiration, many chairing or serving on such BCBF committees as Pay-It-Forward, Celebrate Life, Sewing Circle, and Sunshine Committee.
What brings Breast Friends together is a common diagnosis of breast cancer, but what keeps Breast Friends connected is a genuine willingness to support and encourage one another through their diagnoses, through their treatments, and to their survivorship. And for Breast Friends it is not enough to just survive this diagnosis they support each other to thrive after breast cancer. Breast Friends become THRIVERS, reclaiming lives of great health and healing. No woman given the diagnosis of breast cancer will ever have to take her journey alone as long as she has her Breast Friends.

Metafriends is an exceptional support group for those women whose cancer is Stage IV, or Metastatic. This intimate group is there to address the special needs of these women who have issues and concerns related to metastatic cancer that are not typically addressed in other breast cancer support groups. The women of this group have a deep understanding of the concerns of those with advanced cancer and they freely help each other through the emotional, spiritual, and logistical roller coaster of this disease. The women who comprise this group represent a range of levels of this illness, from those who are metastatic with NED (No Evidence of Disease), to those who are currently grappling with changing treatment regimens, to those who are making use of clinical trials and those who have reached the point of receiving no further treatment.
The group is facilitated by Susan Apollon, a licensed Psychologist who specializes specializing in healing, trauma, loss, and working with women diagnosed with cancer.
